Foundations down, first wall up

Eastern foundation slab poured in the second week. Beat schedule by four days, which is the kind of small win that means a lot when you're building in Bali in the wet season.

Volcanic stone arrived from East Java early. Nizar spent a morning with the masons working out how to lay it without sealing it — volcanic stone needs to breathe, and we want this house to age the way the cliffs do, not the way bad concrete does.

South wall went up Friday. From the road it still looks like nothing. From the lower deck looking back, you can see the shape of the whole thing now.

Honest stuff: rain killed the access road twice. We rerouted. Everything else on track. May we go vertical.

Site prep and a meeting with the priest

Land was blessed the first week. Proper ceremony, proper offerings at the southwest corner — nothing serious starts in Bali without it.

Geotech came back clean, which is rare. We were braced for a surprise and there wasn't one. Nizar slept better that night.

First container of teak landed from East Java on the 20th. It's curing under cover for the next eight weeks. Walking past the stack feels like walking past the future.

Talking to the surf community in Pererenan and Seseh — nothing official yet, just neighbours getting to know each other. People here are direct in a way I like. We'll fit in.
